Strategic Plan for Technology

2013-2017


January-July 2013 - Analyze current technology plan and structures. Meet with key stakeholders to establish goals and strategies for the district.

District Goals:

  1. Establish wireless access for all buildings

  2. Improve access to labs and improve equipment in labs

  3. Find ways to build capacity with respect to devices and resources (ultimate goal is to become a 1:1 environment for students).

  4. Provide authentic professional development to effect elevated levels of student engagement utilizing technology as a tool.

  5. Pilot a blended online learning diploma pathway(FUSION).


August - July 2013-2014 - Develop and implement strategies to realize District goals.

  1. Establish wireless access for all buildings

    1. Leverage grant dollars from Trig to begin the wireless project

    2. Work with GISD to bid the wireless job out and to design the implementation plan

    3. Setup the wireless network upon installation to include guest, student, teacher and administrative access levels

    4. Work with stakeholders to fully access the network

  2. Improve access to labs and improve equipment in labs

    1. Apply for Trig 1:1 whole school technology transformation grant

    2. Leverage grant dollars and general fund dollars to replace and increase the capacity of student cpu’s across the district

    3. Implement STAR Renaissance assessment software district-wide.

    4. Implement Successmaker K-5

    3. Begin to equip every classroom with apple t.v., projector and screen.

  4. Provide authentic professional development to effect elevated levels of student engagement utilizing technology as a tool.

    1. Send technology pioneers in teacher and administrative ranks to professional development at the GISD geared toward high levels of student engagement utilizing various technology tools.

    2. Send selected staff members to MACUL

  5. Pilot a blended online learning diploma pathway(FUSION).

    1. Fully implement FUSION.



2014-2015 - Implement strategies

  • Implement rigorous teacher training to ensure successful implementation of recently awarded whole-school technology grant at BHS.

  • Hire an instructional technologist to spend the year building capacity within the teaching ranks.

  • Purchase multiple I-Pad labs for Barhitte and Bentley Middle School.

  • Improve implementation of Gradpoint for HS credit.

  • Complete installation of apple t.v., projector and screens in every functioning classroom.

  • Purchase an opaque projector for every classroom.

  • Introduce staff to Illuminate as an assessment and data warehouse/mining system.



2015-16

  • Transition to VOIP phone system.

  • Install remaining overhead projectors and apple tv’s in any classroom space not already equipped with them.

  • Begin working toward 1:1 chromebook environment at BMS.

  • Transition district to Google Apps as the primary technology resource

    • transition district to GMail from Outlook

    • Send all instructional staff members who will attend the summer Google Camp training at the GISD.

  • Purchase and install all new security cameras at the MS.

  • Train staff and begin fully utilizing Illuminate as an assessment system and data warehouse system.

  • Develop new technology five year plan with multiple stakeholders using the newly adopted Michigan Dept. of Education required model.


2016-17

  • Transfer HS I-Pads to Barhitte (create a 1:1 environment there)

  • Purchase 1:1 chromebooks at BHS

  • Complete the 1:1 project at BMS

  • Continue to train and fully implement Illuminate to provide instant feedback for students and to provide excellent data to guide district decision making.

·         133 Chromebooks

·         36 PCs in labs

·         5 PCs total in classrooms

·         20 teacher pcs

Barhitte:

·         70 Chromebooks

·         34 PCs in lab

·         15 PCs total in classrooms

·         25 teacher pcs
