Welcome to Math Class! ☺

Below are some guidelines and expectations that will allow us to have a successful school year.  I look forward to working closely with my students and their parents/guardians to enable them to achieve excellence in their academic career.  In my classroom, we will show respect for our fellow students, teachers, parents, and administrators. I expect students to come to class with a positive attitude and give 100% everyday.

Math is composed of 5 units- Ratios and Proportional Relationships, The Number System, Expressions and Equations, Geometry, and Statistics and Probability.

Classroom Norms

1.      Be Responsible

2.      Be Respectful

3.      Be Safe

3.      Be Positive

Classroom Discipline Procedures

The following will be the steps that I will take if students break the classroom norms.

  1. A reminder of the norms and expectations will be stated.

  2. A conversation will take place to direct students behavior and help them to take responsibility.

  3. Phone call or letter home with a possible detention.

  4. Referral to office.

Please be mindful, that according to the handbook, some offenses can lead to an automatic referral and discipline will be handled by administration

Required Materials

Math book, notebook, folder, and sharpened pencils

Borrowed Materials

Students will be using TI-30 calculators in the classroom. These calculators require respect and tender care. It is the student’s responsibility to take care of all materials on loan (including textbooks). This means no dropping, no defacing, or misuse of equipment. Any destruction of class technology and equipment will result in disciplinary action and cost of replacement.

Daily Schedule

Our daily routine will begin with students filling out their planner, followed by a warm-up activity, which will be on the board when the bell rings.  Next, new material will be presented. Then students will have the opportunity to practice new skills. After students practice new skills, they will come back together whole group again for instruction.  Students will end the class working on a practice assignment. Work that is not finished during class time will become homework.

Make-up Assignments

Students are responsible for any work that is missed due to being absent.  However many days a student is absent, is the number of days they will get to make-up assignment.  For example, if you are absent five days, you will then have five days to get your work in. .

Grading Policy

The grades will be figured using a weighted average of the following categories:

Tests-  50%                                   Quizzes- 20% Assignments-30%

The final semester grade is established by the 50-50 percent setup.

            Marking Period 1:  50%

            Marking Period 2:  50%

Tests and Quizzes

You will have at least one day warning prior to a test.  However, you may not have prior warning for quizzes. Communicating with others will not be allowed during either tests or quizzes.  After completing a test or quiz, you are to quietly complete a different task until everyone in the class is finished.

Hall Passes

You must have a pass if you leave the classroom during the scheduled class time.  Only one student is allowed to leave the classroom at a time. Passes will be issued at my discretion.  Please refrain from asking for a pass during instructional time. Students will be allowed an allotted amount of hall passes.  Passes will be tracked in the student’s planner. Therefore, if they do not have their planner, they will not be permitted to leave the classroom.  If a student loses their planner, they have the ability to purchase a new one in the office. Unused passes at the end of the Marking Period will result in a reward! :)
